Get Involved

Westacre Theatre can only exist with the continued support of its team of dedicated volunteers. And we are always looking for new recruits to join this band of dedicated theatre enthusiasts.

There are various ways to get involved:

Front of House
Assisting at performance times with the box office, selling programmes, ushing, selling 50/50 tickets (our in-house raffle) and other tasks that need to be done every time we open our doors to the public.

The bar, which is open half an hour before performances until half an hour after curtain down, is staffed by volunteers (over 18 years of age). We serve bottled beers, wine, spirits, soft drinks, coffee and tea. Many people pre-order interval drinks and this makes the work  reasonably straight forward but, as with all the front of house jobs, it may include a share of the washing up!

Back-Stage

Each performance requires technical assistance which might mean operating light and sound in the control box or working backstage on stage management. We have part-time paid technical support and training is available for inexperienced volunteers who would like to acquire the necessary technical skills to assist in these areas. We actively welcome younger members to this team and would be pleased to hear from anyone  aged 12 or older (although it is likely to require some parental chauffeuring).

On Stage

Westacre Theatre Company is an amateur theatre company that aspires to maintain professional standards of work.
This means although, as a rule, performers do not get paid, the experience of being involved can be very rewarding and stimulating. We are open to people of all ages and try to maintain a varied programme that allows many opportunities for involvement. We do not generally hold auditions but we do often have open workshop sessions for all-comers to spend a morning or an afternoon working on particular plays with directors prior to casting. Most rehearsals are in the evenings or at weekends over a five or six week period. During the summer season, particularly with the involvement of bursary students, rehearsals can be concentrated into a 3 week period over weekdays, evenings and weekends.

If you would like to be involved with Westacre Theatre in any way then  please get in touch on 01760 755 007 or [email protected].
