Westacre Theatre Company

Westacre Theatre, home to Westacre Theatre Company, is situated in rural West Norfolk, three miles north of Swaffham, ten miles east of King’s Lynn and thirty five miles west from Norwich.

Operating in a converted Chapel which serves as a flexible studio space seating 80, the theatre offers a year-round programme of in-house productions, visiting companies, concerts, workshops and events.

Summer productions have been taking place since 1990 and these have attracted audiences from all over East Anglia and beyond with most performances playing to capacity houses. The summer season usually runs from May to August.

Casts for WTC productions are drawn from a remarkably wide area and, although actors are unpaid, the standard of productions is consistently high and Westacre has become synonymous with thought-provoking, challenging, yet hugely enjoyable theatre-going.

Productions of Shakespeare in recent years include Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet, Twelfth Night, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing, The Merry Wives of Windsor, Taming of the Shrew, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Comedy of Errors, Two Gents and The Tempest.

Other recent productions include The Caucasian Chalk Circle, The Fire Raisers, Outside Edge, Blood Wedding, Absent Friends, Woman in Mind, Arabian Nights, Habeas Corpus, Home, Medea, Gregory’s Girl, Cabaret, A Slice of Saturday Night, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, The Little Shop of Horrors, Way Upstream, Billy Liar, She Stoops to Conquer, Shakers, Bouncers, West Moon Street, Blue Remembered Hills, Oh What A Lovely War, Blithe Spirit, Cabaret, Animal Farm and Noises Off.

We have a large and dedicated group of young people who attend drama workshops, participate in both Youth productions and WTC shows and operate the lights/sound for various events and productions. Many of our young people go on to University or Drama school and then return to us as Bursary students - please see the Bursary section of the website for further information.

In 2008 Westacre Theatre won the IVCA Clarion Award for excellence in Performing Arts and in 2010 Westacre Arts Foundation Ltd won an Ability Media International (AMI) Local Hero Award.
