Bursary Awards

Westacre Theatre offers a unique Bursary Award scheme that gives performing arts/drama undergraduate students the chance to come and work with Westacre Theatre Company during the busy summer theatre season. The students will participate in every aspect of a working theatre including acting in productions, back-stage and technical work, stage management, assisting with front-of-house duties and helping our workshop leaders with the holiday drama classes for young people. The selected students will receive a small bursary from the theatre depending on the length of their placement. Students apply from universities and drama schools all across the country but to be eligible for the scheme they must be able to provide their own accommodation in the Norfolk area. In previous years we have recruited students from Universities as diverse as Bristol, Anglia Ruskin, The Court Theatre, Carmarthen, De Montfort, Lincoln, UEA, Northampton, Guildford, Leicester, Bath Spa and Rose Bruford College.

The students gain a tremendous amount of vital practical experience during their time with us and are able to explore new areas of interest while developing skills in their chosen field. Previous students have gone on to work in theatres all round the country, including the West End.

Applications for the 2019 Bursary Scheme are closed.

Thank you to all those who sent in their applications.

Having the students with us over the summer broadens and strengthens our company. Our audiences enjoy seeing new faces every year and the students bring new and different skills to the company which we are able to use both in productions and in general. Their help with the popular holiday drama workshops is essential and enables us to admit more children onto each workshop.

How you can get involved…

The Bursary Scheme is funded partly by local authority grants but mostly by generous private sponsors who continue to give each year and enjoy seeing the new students over the summer.

Private sponsors of £50 or more will receive two complimentary tickets to a production over the summer and will be invited to stay on after the performance for a small reception where they meet the students and have a glass of wine and a few nibbles! Company members also do a lot of the fundraising and Luke Conduit-Smith has run the London Marathon several times and raised over £8000.
