7 May to 16 June

The much anticipated annual art event – the Norfolk and Norwich Open Studios – springs into life again for its 25th anniversary year across three weekends from Saturday May 25 to Sunday June 9.  Over 250 venues across our beautiful county – from factories to front rooms, from churches to schools – play host to no less than 430 artists and makers in one of the largest and most successful schemes of its kind in the entire UK.  30 artists are exhibiting in West Norfolk alone.

Westacre Theatre provides an unusually striking backdrop to artworks by well-known Great Massingham artists Karen Wadham, Sue Kingston and Peter Lawton.  They will fling open the Theatre’s doors from 10am to 5pm on those weekends when everyone is welcome to view their latest work, see ‘behind the scenes’ with the creators themselves and talk about the techniques and skills which influence them; all for free and with no need to book.

This hub of painters forms part of the Castle Acre Trail which extols the considerable achievements of the creative talent within its local community.  The Trail is one of a number which together with individual artists and galleries last year attracted over 36,000 visitors across Norfolk.  In its first year (1994), the scheme had just 15 galleries and 49 artists with some of the original artists still participating now, demonstrating the timeless appeal of visual art.  Print-making, ceramics, sculpture, glassware, and textiles are among the many disciplines on display.

Additionally, over the county boundary, Suffolk Open Studios are open for all five weekends in June with more than 100 artists showing off their best pieces.

Watching artists at work in unique spaces continues to fascinate people in 2019 and will no doubt appeal in the many years ahead.  For more information please visit;

Exhibiting at Westacre Theatre…

The exhibition space at Westacre Theatre has been extended as part of our ongoing development work. The new spaces include our existing foyer area, new bar, new link and separate new gallery area.  We usually have between two and three different artists exhibiting with us each season. We always aim to give preference to local artists but are happy to exhibit work from further afield.

The Gallery is open at all performance times.

Visitors are very welcome on other weekdays too, but please always check before you intend to visit by calling the Theatre on 01760 755 007 to make certain there will be someone available to open up the spaces.

If you would be interested in having an exhibition here with us then please do get in touch with the Theatre office on 01760 755 007
