Blog: Midsummer Mystery Walk at Westacre Theatre – Sunday 22 June 2pm

The Idea…

The idea of a ‘walk’ came about during a discussion at a Fundraising meeting about how we might raise money to buy a defibrillator for the theatre.

Summer was coming up and the grounds surrounding Westacre are so lovely that we decided initially to have a ‘treasure hunt’. This idea evolved into incorporating clues from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. We decided that the ‘treasure’ element was the treasure of the beautiful words of Mr Shakespeare in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. So, in the space of about half an hour, during a fundraising meeting, our Midsummer Mystery Walk began to take shape.

Finding clues about moons, and clocks and apple trees ….was fun!

The next step was walking the route to decide where the clues would be best placed. Sounds of babbling brooks, insects buzzing, gnarled and twisted oak trees…..all gave inspiration to the four of us as we walked through the woods (Karen, Vanessa, Sue and Erika).

And we were determined to find a way to have fairy lights involved somewhere along the route – and we did!….We contacted Katherine, who is in charge of the props store, and she was very helpful in finding some of the things we wanted. Karen has spent hours making fairy ribbons, fairy garland head-dresses for the girls, gluing glitter and even painting a moon….! Erika volunteered to make the scones – she assures us that she makes lovely scones. The rest of us will make tray-bakes. And this cream tea will top off what we hope will have been a lovely walk through Westacre woods.

It only takes about 45 minutes to walk around, although the ground is quite uneven so it may not be suitable for wheelchair users.

Finally…

All we need is to have the sun shining down ……
